A Better World

A fellow blogger wrote a post recently about something I feel very strongly about.  Her post was about bullies, empathy and compassion.  It was a very meaningful and thoughtful post.  It reminded me that we should all strive to be a better person every day.  As I was reminded when reading her post, we have all been guilty at one point in our lives of being unkind, being a bully, having less compassion then we should.  It takes a bigger person, a mature person, a better person to be the one to attempt to make things right.  Whether in a relationship, the workplace, at school or at home, it starts with us …We the people.  The important thing is that we realize our shortcomings and strive to be better human beings.  As we get older and become adults we especially need to practice , kindness and show empathy for one another.  We should be setting good examples for our children, acting accordingly and teaching them to learn to treat your fellow man as you would want to be treated.  Such simple words:  Treat others as you would want them to treat you.  Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. [Matthew 7:12]  That is what Jesus wants for us.  I think it is what most of us want, at least I would like to hope and think so.  We want a better world; a world with less war, less greed, less hunger, less sickness …

I guess my thought is this:  slow down, stop and smell the roses.  Learn to enjoy the little things.  Be thankful for all that you have on a daily basis because life is not promised, it is a gift.  Treasure life, not just yours but human life.  Embrace your life, live it well … be compassionate, be patient, be kind, be loving, be a better person and make a better world.

I love this John Lennon song – Imagine.  The one part: “Imagine all the people, living life in peace, sharing all the world.  You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one.  I hope someday you’ll join us and the world will live as one.”  Such a beautiful song!
